Visiting Millport
A trip to Millport is part of the adventure! Millport is the main town on the Isle of Cumbrae,
a small island just off Scotland's west coast.
Getting there is easy. Travel to the town of Largs, where regular ferries run to the island throughout the day. The crossing takes only around 10 minutes and offers lovely views across the Firth of Clyde.
When you arrive at Cumbrae Slip, you can catch the island bus, hire a bike, or enjoy a scenic walk into Millport. The journey from the ferry terminal to the town is about 3 miles and is part of the charm of visiting the island.

Here’s a useful “How to get to Millport” guide from several common starting points:
🚆 From Glasgow
By train:
Glasgow Central → Largs by train, taking around 56 minutes. Largs railway station is a short walk from the ferry terminal. Take the CalMac ferry from Largs to Cumbrae, then a local bus/taxi from the slipway into Millport.
By bus:
There are regular McGill's buses from Glasgow city centre to Largs, taking around 1 hour 50 minutes, followed by the ferry and island bus.
By car:
Drive Glasgow → Largs, approximately 32 miles / just under 50 minutes, then take your car on the ferry.
🚗 From Ayr
Drive to Largs — approximately 33 miles / 50 minutes — and take the ferry to Cumbrae. Alternatively, take the train from Ayr to Kilwinning, change for Largs, then walk to the ferry terminal. The train journey is around 70 minutes.
🚆 From Paisley
Take a train towards Glasgow, then the train from Glasgow Central to Largs, or check for a suitable connecting service. From Largs station it's a short walk to the ferry terminal, followed by the ferry and island bus/taxi.

🚗 From Edinburgh
Drive west towards Glasgow and then continue to Largs, before taking the Cumbrae ferry. By public transport, travel towards Glasgow and then take the train to Largs. The final section is always the Largs → Cumbrae ferry.
🚌 From elsewhere in Scotland
For places such as Dundee, Stirling, Inverness or Aberdeen, the simplest public-transport approach is generally to travel towards Glasgow, then continue to Largs → Cumbrae → Millport. CalMac recommends Traveline Scotland for planning journeys from anywhere in the UK.
